Meet our Trainers


With operational bases in the UK, the Netherlands, Brussels and Berlin, Idox specialises in providing solutions for clients across local, regional and national government, higher education institutions, public sector agencies, charitable organisations and private sector organisations. Its Grants arm supports organisations at every step of the funding journey, from initial identification of relevant programmes, to application, management and dissemination.

Marnix Smit (Dr.) is a senior grants consultant within Idox. In his role he advises, supports, and provides training on European grant funding to all kinds of organisations that work on research and innovation. Before joining Idox, Marnix worked as an Assistant-Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Technology of Twente University (Netherlands). He holds an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Twente and a PhD in Urban Planning from the same university.

Remco van der Zouw has a wide experience in grants consultancy and management for several European R&D projects and funding programmes such as Horizon 2020, COST and Ambient Assisted Living. He is a senior consultant with an excellent understanding of the human factor in multi-stakeholder projects and has developed projects for a wide range of clients. Remco is a member of the pan-European Grants team of Idox. His strength lies in identifying a good idea and turning it into an excellent proposal through consortium analysis, group brainstorm and decision-making. He involves the team and delegates tasks without losing quality in order to reach the desired goal.

Kathryn Andrews (MA) is an research & policy manager at Idox. For over a decade, she has worked in a senior research and policy capacity and has a depth of experience at reporting and managing the dissemination of both research and policy content, for a range of national and international clients. She has been heavily involved in the development and delivery of RESEARCHconnect for UK and European research professionals, and is responsible for leading a team of research content specialists. Her involvement in research and content management makes her well-placed as an experienced and knowledgeable client trainer. Kathryn holds a MA in Social Science Research Methods from the University of Nottingham (2002).

Nanny Bressers (PhD) is an EU grants consultant within Idox. She has experience with numerous regional, national and European grant applications, and provides EU grants training for an array of organisations. Before joining Idox, Nanny worked as project leader of an Interreg NWE IVb project. Other previous working experience includes employment as a scientist at the Erasmus University Rotterdam where she has lectured Public Administration, and has given many presentations at (inter)national conferences. Nanny holds an MSc in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam (2006) and a PhD in Public Administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam (2011).

Rebecca Erskine (BA Hons) is a director at Idox. She heads up Idox's Grants division in the UK, orchestrating activity across marketing, content, product development, training, sales and customer services functions and playing a leading role in GRANTfinder's overall strategic vision for Europe. Rebecca has been working in the grants arena for some 20 years and is PRINCE2 qualified. She has an in-depth knowledge of the funding landscape and what funders are looking for, has written various articles on funding and has led on creating new course content which has gained CPD accreditation. She typically acts as the facilitator for GRANTfinder's funding conferences and is proud of GRANTfinder's reputation of providing accessible and interactive training courses. Rebecca holds a BA Hons Degree in English Literature and German from Lancaster University.

Mike Dever is a content manager within Idox. He leads the Business funding team at GRANTfinder, overseeing the real-time publication of thousands of content items on several client platforms and Idox product websites. With more than 13 years' experience of the funding landscape – in particular understanding funder requirements and producing copy that is easy to digest – Mike is well-placed as a trainer for GRANTfinder, creating case studies according to specific areas of interest which help to ensure the training is as practical as possible. Particularly conversant in the best ways of accessing the most appropriate data and resources in our funding platforms, Mike ensures that users are proficient in navigating GRANTfinder and using it as a primary tool in any role where fund identification is necessary.

Udo van Unen (Msc.) is a senior grant consultant within Idox. He has supported a large number of EU proposals under different EU funding schemes (i.e. ERDF, INTERREG, Horizon 2020). Udo has extensive knowledge and experience in setting up international partnerships and has held a number of governmental positions between 1997 and 2005. Udo has lectured on European structural and investments funds.

Sue Scott has an extensive track record of results within the public and voluntary sectors particularly in programme design, financing, and delivery to meet the needs of clients, partners and programme beneficiaries. During an 18-year career at Groundwork UK Sue developed new business opportunities securing grants and tenders totalling over £10 million from Government Departments, the corporate sector, lottery bodies and charitable trusts. Sue now shares her skills and knowledge to enable others to succeed in generating income for their own organisations. Enjoying a long-established relationship with GRANTfinder, she has helped hundreds of organisations achieve funding success.

Fabienne Poulet's long career as a fundraiser has included an extensive track record in securing funding in the areas of the environment, health, the local community and overseas NGOs. Fabienne's main area of expertise is statutory funding – namely grants and tenders from the UK central and local government, the European Commission and occasionally other European governments as well as Lottery and Comic Relief. In addition she has a wide-ranging knowledge of UK grant-making trusts and European foundations with an interest in international development, disability and the environment.

Sheila Deighton brings a depth of knowledge from her work over the past 17 years in both the voluntary and public sectors. From her former role as Knowledge Transfer Manager at the NWDA she brings a sound understanding of Government policy within innovation, enterprise and knowledge exchange. Her current work on the commissioning panel of a leading Research Council also means she has an in-depth understanding of what makes research proposals attractive.  | | 0870 333 7101
